Grommit, we really wanted to be friends with you but when you growled we backed off. Still, we loved you. |

Grommit, I will miss you greatly. I believe I was part of the very small circle of people you actually considered a buddy. An honor indeed. What I will miss most is our walks together. Whether it was around Spring Lake or along Brush Creek, through the Armstrong redwoods or up and down the paths of the Lake Sonoma reserve, along the Willamette or in the neighborhoods of Riverside, Santa Rosa and Sellwood, you lead Laura, myself, and many others on varying routes, new sites, fresh smells and long conversations. Often it was just you, Laura and me. Personal time together. I looked forward to those walks. I loved those walks. We will all miss those walks. While it would be silly to suggest that I will miss you more than anyone else, I don’t think it would be too big a stretch to say that I will miss you as much as anyone else less one. Thanks for the memories. |

Grommit--You were a very special, one-of-a-kind dog, and I'm sure you will be missed by all who were fortunate to be a part of your life, espcially your devoted and adoring mother, Laura. I'm one of those people, as I was fortunate enough to be chosen as your pet sitter for a little over 2 years. I felt a unique bond with you, and though you had a reputation for being a little 'less than friendly' to some people, I saw through that and realized you were just a big teddy bear inside of that 'tough dog' facade. I always felt such a sense of pride whenever I took you out for walks and had a hard time not claiming you as my own when people would tell me what a beautiful dog I had! You had quite and aura of sophistication about you, even when you had to wear those booties on your feet to keep you from licking your paws too much, or when after your last leg surgery and all of your fur didn't grow back, you wore a patchwork sweater your mom made for you to cover up your bare spots! I remember also how after everyone thought your fur might never grow back, it finally miraculously did, and how we were all so happy for you to have your gorgeous coat back again. I enjoyed our time together so much, whether it was taking walks in the neighborhood or just hanging out at the house, where you would play fetch with your favorite toys and try your best to convince me you needed another treat! You would also sleep on the bed with me sometimes, which I took as a compliment that you did in fact trust me and think I was ok. I know you are looking after us all now, and if you could, you would tell us all you are happy and ok. You touched a lot of lives and were loved by many, I'm sure. I will always have the fondest memories of you and I know you will live on in my heart forever. |

Hey Grommit, You were the most confident dog that I’ve ever met. I remember when we’d visit Laura, you acted as if you owned the place (and I think, really, you did). Thanks for tolerating our presence during those visits, even though we disrupted your schedule and competed for Laura’s time. I’ll always remember taking you on walks in Santa Rosa and around Spring Lake....you always attracted attention everywhere you went because you were such a handsome fellow. One of my favorite memories of you was when you had a bald spot on your backside from a surgery and Laura had knitted you a “b*** patch” to wear. You wore that “b*** patch” with flair, Grommit! You were one of the best friends my sister could ever ask for and we’ll all miss you tremendously! |

Grommit - you were a good friend. I still find it hard to believe that you didn't try to bite me on the night we first met. Living with you for so long I got to learn all the different sides to your personality. The punky side that would always come out when strangers were about or strange dogs were angling for your attention. The playful side where we would be all ruff -n- tumble. The beggy side - always wanting your food ball filled or a little nibble off our dinner plates or maybe just a greenie from the treat cabinet. The loving side - I got to see this one often and it was the most precious. My fondest memories of you were when we would go for our walks. You were always excited and always interested in sniffing everything. Squirrels and kitties were on alert because you were on the prowl. If only you could be off-leash so you could go get them. Grommit, you were the best dog anyone could hope for. All of your qualities, especially the punky ones, made you the special dog that you were. You will be greatly missed by me and all the people who loved you. |

Grommit... what a little punk you were. You peed on the bed when you first met your ma as if that alone would seal your fate. You didn't need to do that, but it's how you rolled. Everywhere you went... people wanted to touch you and you weren't fond of the kiddies either (see Tim's message). Every Spring Lake loop you were showered with compliments... Scout never got that many! You were a handsome dog and you acted like you knew it, even reveled in it at times, and that's why you were so loved. You were my first dog, too, and through you I learned what amazing dog could be. What set you apart, esp as a pup, was your mask-markings. Artists could not have painted them on better! I missed you for a long time but loved that you were so well taken care of. RIP G. We still smile with you! |

Grommit~ You never asked or expected more from life than to have someone to love and to be loved. You had both. Good boy Grommit! You got it right. Yours was a life well lived. |

Hi Grommit. I've had so much fun getting to know you. And you did give me a challenge, but it made it all the more rewarding as you slowly let me be in your circle. I can remember the first time I tried to put a collar around your head and how you let me know that wasn't going to be an option. So we worked out our own system and perfected it. And every time I came to your house I could always count on your smiling face and excitement in your tail. And then you would howl to let me know it was time for some action. One of my favorite memories is when one evening when I was flipping through music videos on tv, and found some old song. I started singing, and then you started singing. And we went on like that for a while. That was one of the coolest moments ever. I love you little buddy. Thanks for being my friend and making me smile. |

Grommits, Remember you used to come snuggle with me on the couch in the morning when nobody else was looking? And then sometimes when Laura wasn't around you'd come over for pets... but then as soon as she got home you'd start acting punky and yell at me for moving my arms too fast or lively dancing. I wasn't trying to hurt Laura! I never got to give you that hug from behind I promised you. I'll miss you buddy. Matthew |

Grommit, You are amongst the few animals who has convinced me to call them by their real name, not just Mr. <Animal Type>. Sorry for being not much a dog lover, but thank you for showing me how an animal can shine with your strong personality and the love and companionship you showed to your owners. |
